Motorsports Technologies in Houston: Easy Performance Modifications you can try (part 2)

Many drivers look to improve the performance and handling of their vehicles through regular maintenance. As Jayson Cohen of Motorsports Technologies Inc. (MTI) knows, some easy performance modifications can also help improve the driving experience. From his service shop in Houston, Cohen has advised and implemented performance enhancements (and fixes) that have improved car performance. He shares some of them below.

Improved visibility

Regular halogen bulbs are good, but you can improve visibility (especially in dark conditions), by installing High Intensity Discharge (HID) lamps that shine brightly. These lamps make use of an amplifier and special gas to charge the bulb. The result is double the amount of illumination you would get with ordinary bulbs.

Spark plugs replacement

Replacing your vehicle’s spark plugs doesn’t necessarily fall under the “modifications” category, but it makes a world of difference just by regularly replacing them. Over time, worn out spark plugs have to work harder to produce better sparks, which erodes the conductive elements. Replacing the wires also makes a difference as it reduces electrical resistance and improves insulation.

Exhaust upgrades

When you improve the car’s air intake system, you should also consider improving the exhaust system. Aside from allowing air to escape freely, such an upgrade allows the engine to function more efficiently. By using mufflers and resonators, your exhaust upgrade can keep the noise down and increase fuel economy.

As Motorsport Technologies Houston knows, you can upgrade the car safely without voiding the warranty. Where in doubt, the experts at the Houston-based performance shop advise on speaking with your dealership before undertaking any upgrades.

What Entrepreneurs can learn from Houston’s Motorsports Technologies Inc.’s Growth

Like many successful business owners, Houston native and owner of Motorsports Technologies Inc. (MTI) Jayson Cohen had no experience in running a business. However, over the course of the past two decades, he has learned quite a lot on how to keep a business steady and ensure continued growth, even in the midst of tough time. Regardless of the industry, business owners can find the following tips to be very helpful:

Know your strengths
While you may have to wear many hats at the beginning, be frank about your strengths and weaknesses. Don’t try to be everything, because it will mean you won’t focus on what you’re good at. Many people who stretch their abilities often jeopardize their chances of focusing on their strengths and working within their limits. The resultant pressure to perform risks the business’ chances of growing.

Eyes on the prize
You have to be strategic when it comes to growth. Set short, medium and long-term plans, track progress against these plans, and change them where necessary. If you don’t set goals early in the process, you won’t have a way to measure progress. When everyone in the business understands the vision, it allows for better accomplishment of operations.

Foster your talent
A business grows and expands on the back of its talented workforce. You should always look for ways to improve the work environment, benefits, and culture – aspects that motivate employees to keep working for you. For Houston’s Motorsports Technologies Houston Inc., the nature of work allows employees to be creative with performance packages, which enables them to feel like a part of the business.

Motorsport Technologies, Inc. - Automotive Excellence in Houston

In order to work for Motorsport Technologies, Houston mechanics have to display uncommon knowledge of high performance systems and understand how to modify engines to deliver the speed and power that high performance car owners expect. Motorsport was established in Houston in 1994, and was closed in 2008. In 2015, the owners of Motorsport reopened the store and have begun working with racing companies and private high performance vehicle owners to create the highest quality engines possible. All of Motorsport’s mechanics have been trained in performance engines and how to deliver the largest amount of power with considerations to safety.

Specialty mechanics like high performance auto mechanics have to earn experience in their particular field in addition to passing the Automotive Service Excellence exam. For high performance mechanics, a bit of creativity comes into the job. In order to get customers the power and speed they need, mechanics sometimes have to think outside the box to modify the engines in such a way to significantly increase power. Sometimes this comes from allowing the bore to be taken out to its maximum length without sacrificing the safety of the driver and structural integrity of the engine. All mechanics have to earn general experience working with engines to become fully certified. To make it as a high performance auto mechanic, they have to earn extra experience.

Motorsport Technologies Houston provides racing teams and performance vehicle owners the best options to create the fastest, most durable vehicle possible for their driving pleasure.
